THE UHV BASEBALL TEAM HAD ITS SECOND SCRIMMAGE EVER, THAT WAS AT A&M-KINGSVILLE. AFTER GOING FOR FOUR HOURS, THE JAVELINAS OUTSCORED THE JAGUARS 14-13 IN 13 INNINGS. THE JAGUARS NEXT SCRIMMAGE IS MONDAY AT THREE AT RIVERSIDE VS. ALVIN COMMUNITY COLLEGE.
THE UNIVERSITY OF HOUSTON VICTORIA SOFTBALL TEAM, 2-0 AFTER WINNING ITS VERY FIRST GAMES AT A TOURNAMENT IN HOUSTON.
NOW THEY GET READY TO GO BACK TO HOUSTON FOR ANOTHER BIG TOURNAMENT THIS SATURDAY. WHAT HAVE THE JAGUARS BEEN WORKING ON IN PRACTICE?
"We've actually been working on everything: team bonding, hitting, working all the way down to mechanics, throwing to the right positions", said Stephanie Lavey, Jaguars Pitcher/Shortstop. "We've worked on everything: spins, pitching-wise, everything you could possibly think of, we've been working on it."
"We've really been working on everything", said Lindsey Ferguson, Jaguars First Base/Pitcher. "We do a lot of hitting drills like we're doing now, but we've also been working on mechanics defensively and different things like rundowns and pick-offs, the basics that you really need to make a whole team. Now in this tournament coming up you get to face the University of Houston on it's homefield. How exciting is that for you? It's super exciting. They have an incredible field and they're part of the same system we are, so it's a really big deal. We really feel we'll be very competitive with them and we have a chance to pull off a win. That'd be great. It'll show us where we are, where we stand. It'll be a good opportunity because we haven't played a university. We only played two jucos last tournament, so it'll be a good experience."
THE JAGUARS PLAY THREE GAMES IN THE UNIVERSITY OF HOUSTON FALL INVITATIONAL AT THE U OF H MAIN CAMPUS ON SATURDAY. AT 1:00 P.M.-UHV Vs. San Jacinto JC. AT 3:00 P.M.-UHV Vs. UH. AT 5:00 P.M.-UHV Vs. Lamar St. THE COUGARS HAVE FORMER SHINER ST. PAUL STARS HALEY AND JESSICA VALIS ON THEIR TEAM. THE EVENT IS FREE OF CHARGE.
