Dealing with breast cancer or any type of cancer can be extremely draining.  Wendi says that starting the support group Breast Friends has been a huge part of her healing process.

"It's helped in my healing.  It's always better for me when I'm so overwhelmed and down and embroiled in my own drama.  It's better for me to get out of my own head and into someon else's," said Wendi Duvall.

WENDI HAS JUST COMPLETED CHEMO THERAPY AND HER SPIRITS ARE HIGH.

"For me to be able to stretch my hand out and create the support group and get this gathering of people that are going through the same emotions....it's been many years of therapy rolled into just a couple of months," said Wendi Duvall.

BREAST FRIENDS MEETS ONCE EVERY MONTH TO SUPPORT CANCER SURVIVORS AND THOSE JUST NEWLY DIAGNOSED.  EVERY MONTH THE GROUP FOCUSES ON A NEW TOPIC - - THIS MONTH'S TOPIC IS THE CHILDREN AND FAMILY OF SURVIVORS.

WENDI'S FAMILY WAS AT THIS MONTH'S MEETING TO SUPPORT HER.  HER DAUGHTER SIERRA SAYS THAT AFTER SEEING HER MOM FIGHT CANCER - - SHE KNOWS OTHERS CAN TOO.
"I just tell them - my mom got through it and I'm pretty sure y'all can too," said Sierra Duvall.

WENDI SAYS SHE ENCOURAGES BOTH WOMEN AND MEN TO GET THEIR YEARLY MAMMOGRAMS- AS WELL AS THEIR OWN SELF BREAST EXAMS EVERY MONTH.

WENDI DUVALL SURVIVED CANCER AND IS HELPING OTHERS FIGHT IT - - THIS IS WHY SHE IS OUR HOMETOWN HERO OF THE WEEK.
