ATHLETE OF THE WEEK

OUR ATHLETE OF THE WEEK HELPED HIS HIGH SCHOOL FOOTBALL TEAM IN A BIG WAY GET ITS FIRST WIN OF THE SEASON.  OUR CHASE GALLIMORE FROM PORT LAVACA TONIGHT. THE NEWSCENTER 25 ATHLETE OF THE WEEK IS RUNNING BACK STERLING JONES FROM CALHOUN HIGH SCHOOL.  IN THE SANDIES WIN OVER YOAKUM ON FRIDAY, JONES CARRIED THE BALL 13 TIMES FOR 174 YARDS AND 2 TOUCHDOWNS.  "It felt good because we were blocking", said Jones. "Everyone was making plays.  We still have things we need to correct.  But, were doing pretty good now.  I could see the holes and which way to run.  I just ran and took it to the house." "Sterling has had 2 great games running the football for us", said Richard Whitaker, Calhoun Head Football Coach.  "The offensive line did a good job and we made some blocks on the perimeter.  Sterling saw some oppurtunities and like he said.  He took it to the house." AND WHEN IT COMES TO THE REST OF THE SEASON, STERLING HAS THE PLAN FOR THE SANDCRABS. "Score touchdowns.  Sterling had a great off-season.  We knew he had an opportunity to be a special player for us.  He showed it Friday.  He can be a big player for us.  This week's player of the week belongs to Calhoun High School in the name of Sterling Jones.  Congratulations Sterling.  I owe it all to my coach and my team. (applause)". THE SANDCRABS HIT THE ROAD TO TAKE ON STATE-RANKED INGLESIDE FRIDAY NIGHT. THE LATEST ON THAT GAME, AND A LOT MORE, ON FRIDAY FOOTBALL FEVER, 10:20 FRIDAY NIGHT.
