ATHLETE OF THE WEEK

TWO WEEKS AGO, OUR ATHLETE OF THE WEEK WAS PALACIOS RUNNING BACK HENRY SOLIS. LAST FRIDAY NIGHT, SOLIS HAD ANOTHER FINE GAME, BUT HE WAS OUTGAINED IN THAT GAME BY THIS WEEK'S HONOREE. OUR CHASE GALLIMORE TONIGHT IN THE GOBBLER CAPITAL OF THE WORLD.
THE NEWSCENTER 25 ATHLETE OF THE WEEK GOES TO CUERO HIGH SCHOOL IN THE NAME OF QUINCY WHITTINGTON. WHITTINGTON WAS THE GOBBLERS WORKHORSE IN FRIDAY'S WIN OVER PALACIOS. HE RUSHED FOR 256 YARDS ON 21 CARRIES.
"I'm just going out there, just letting everybody know that no matter what, we're a good team at running back", said Whittington. "I know Solis was the top runner, and everybody was looking at him, but I just wanted to go out there and show them that with all the athletes we have, we can still do the same thing he was doing."
"Quincy's a great competitior and had a great ballgame on offense and on the defensive side, too", said Mark Reeve, Cuero Football Head Coach. "I felt our offensive line really had a good ballgame, came off the ball. You can't run it without those guys. Quincy's been a mainstay for us since he was a sophomore and really had a good ballgame against Palacios."
QUINCY WHITTINGTON'S BIG BALLGAME CAME AT A VERY IMPORTANT TIME, JUST WHEN THE GOBBLERS BEGAN DISTRICT.
"We had to go out there and set an example", said Whittington. "We had just lost to Bay City, so we had to go out there and regroup and get ready for District because that's the most important part, to make the playoffs. We have to go out there and show out."
"Every single District ballgame is big", said Reeve. "Palacios has a good football team, they'll be in the playoffs this year. It's a big win to be able to get first one under you. Everybody's trying to do the same thing, get in the playoffs, win a District championship."
