THE ATHLETE OF THE WEEK AWARD RETURNS TONIGHT, AND THE FIRST WINNER OF
THE AWARD FOR THE FALL SEASON COMES FROM ONE OF THE SMALLEST HIGH
SCHOOLS IN THE AREA.
SMALL IS NOT THE WAY TO DESCRIBE THE GAME KYLE LAWSON HAD RUNNING THE FOOTBALL FOR LOUISE LAST FRIDAY NIGHT.
IN THE WIN OVER DANBURY, THE JUNIOR FULLBACK RUSHED FOR 200 YARDS AND
TWO TOUCHDOWNS, AS HE LOOKS FOR HIS SECOND STRAIGHT THOUSAND YARD
SEASON.
"It feels good", said Lawson. "I have a preetty good offensive line and
our receivers, tight end, quarterback, Nick Barrera and C.J. Clements,
they're all real good. It felt good, though, to run for 200 yards.
How much have you improved as you start your third year on varsity? A
lot. I see the field a lot and our offensive line's a lot, lot better."
"Kyle's a great player", said Rodney Dowell, Louise Football Head
Coach. "We have a lot of great guys up in front of him that make that
happen: Matthew Blumrick, Garrett Brown, Javier Padron, Danny and Josh
Estrada, Zane Solis. Those guys really made it happen for Kyle. We
expect the same effort from those guys every week and it's just a
pleasure to have the opportunity to coach kids like that. How much of
a leader are you on this team? I don't know. I'd like to say I'm a
pretty good leader. Kyle's a guy who leads by example in the way that
he works and the things that he does. That's big, and Kyle's just a
junior. We have a couple of years with him so we're excited. What do
you expect from yourself and this team this year? I'm hoping to get
1500-2000 yards. I'm hoping we go to the playoffs, I'm pretty sure we
will. We want to congratulate Kyle Lawson, Louise High School, Athlete
of the Week. It's an honor to get this. I have a great offensive line
and tight ends, whole team, they're all real good. "
THE LOUISE HORNETS PLAY THEIR HOME OPENER FRIDAY NIGHT AGAINST SHINER
ST. PAUL. THE LATEST ON THAT GAME ON FRIDAY FOOTBALL FEVER, 10:20
FRIDAY NIGHT.
