ON TURKEY DAY, IT'S ONLY FITTING TO GET A FOOTBALL PLAYOFF UPDATE ON THE CUERO GOBBLERS.
JUST LIKE MANY OF US FEASTED ON TURKEY AND TRIMMINGS TODAY, THE GOBBLERS FEASTED ON MATHIS LAST FRIDAY NIGHT.
IN THEIR PLAYOFF OPENER, THE GOBBLERS SCORED 64 POINTS AND HAD ALMOST 500 YARDS TOTAL OFFENSE.
"Our kids really came out and played well", said Mark Reeve, Cuero Football Head Coach. "I thought we did a good job of taking advantage of the three and outs that we got. We got a couple of turnovers. I thought we played good in all three phases. We had a punt that we ran back for a touchdown, a kickoff return that was big. It's unusual that we had six one-play drives. You always enjoy those."
"We just started great with our linemen doing their job and them opening up holes for our backs and receivers to do their thing", said Tyler Arendt, Cuero Quarterback. "Talk about how this season has gone. You started out from day one as starting quarterback and you're in your sophomore year. How much have you learned and matured? It's big stepping into a place like this with no varsity experience. I knew I just had to get better every week and just continue to improve."
CUERO'S NEXT PLAYOFF COMES DOWN IN CORPUS FRIDAY NIGHT.
IT'S THE GOBBLERS AND PORT ISABEL, 3A DIVISION TWO AREA PLAYOFF, AT 7:30 AT BUCCANEER STADIUM.
