The weekend after Thanksgiving has always been a bit slow, so I suppose that we should be grateful that there are two new releases coming to Victoria, even if neither were screened for critics.

 “Awake” starring Jessica Alba and Hayden Christensen, is a psychological drama about a man who isn’t given enough anesthetic medication and finds himself awake and aware but paralyzed in the middle of his heart surgery.

 Are the doctors trying to kill him? Or is he just hallucinating because of the drugs?

 “Mama’s Boy” stars Jon Heder as a 29 year old slacker who’s still living at home with his mother. His sweet set up is threatened, though, when mom, played by Diane Keaton, gets a new boyfriend. Will our slacker hero fight to protect his living arrangement, or will he finally grow up?

 Sadly, things aren’t any better on home DVD. Between “Bratz,” “I Know Who Killed Me” and “Who’s Your Caddy,” this is a really stinky week on home DVD. There is one exception, Kerry Russell in the delightful, “Waitress.”
