A rare return to the stage for movie star Elizabeth Taylor. The academy-award winning actress and AIDS activist performed a play at an AIDS benefit at the Paramount Pictures lot on World Aids Day on Saturday. Taylor did not speak to reporters as her boyfriend, industrialist Jason Winters, wheeled

her into the theater. The 75-year old actress, who is a member of the Screen Actors Guild union, persuaded striking TV and film writers to briefly put down their picket signs for the performance. The goal was to raise one million dollars for the Elizabeth Taylor AIDS Foundation.

And for the 30th year in the row, the Kennedy Center and President and First Lady honored American artists for their achievements. Movie director Martin Scorcese, singer Diana Ross, comedian Steve Martin, singer Brian Wilson and pianist Leon Fleischer took part in an evening of celebration for their

career achievement.

The fairy-tale romance "Enchanted" is still on top at the box office. The movie, starring Amy Adams as a cartoon princess, pulled in 17-million dollars over the weekend. "This Christmas" finished in second place with over eight million dollars. "Beowulf" finished a close third.
