The organizers of this year's 5th Annual Adopt-an-Angel Toyr Run are extending a challenge to the Victoria viewing community to donate something. All previous donations have come from the Houston area through individual private donations and Houston area businesses.
The toy run was founded 5 years ago by Jerry Karnes to give something back to the communities where we love to fish.
The Adopt-An-Angel which is run by the Port O’Connor Community Center (a non-profit 501 C3). They provide a Christmas dinner and warm clothes and shoes for the kids. We provide the toys.
The project provided toys for over 300 kids last year. It completely covered all the kids through the Harbor Foundation and in more than 100 foster homes for Calhoun County and surrounding counties including Victoria.
This year the Crossroads Youth Home has been added to the list. It serves 7 counties and over 571 at-risk, abandoned, neglected and abused children. So another 2 to 3 thousand dollars is needed to reach our goal.
From the organizers... Why donate to us instead of Toys-For-Tots or other charities? Because all the toys and money donations go directly to the children. We have no overhead to pay for and everything we do is out of our own pocket just for the kids. Our goal is to help local children. There is an added need for toys for kids who have a parent overseas in Iraq or Afghanistan…something we haven’t seen much of in past years.

Donations may be made:

The Crossroads Youth Home

292 Foster Field Drive in the Victoria Airport complex
or call the youth home at 361-578-3686 to arrange pickup of toys or cash donations.
Paypal account: andrew@xconsulting.cc

The community is also invited to join in the toy run itself, which starts at 10:00 Satruday morning, departing from Bridge Bait in Surfside Beach. It's a 72-mile trip from Freeport to Port O'Connor. For more information contact Jerry Karnes at 281-558-4696 or Andy Coker at 713-256-7289.
