VICTORIANS GARY AND GAY PATEK WILL MAKE THE SHORT TRIP TO NEW ORLEANS TO WATCH THEIR SON JACOB PLAY IN THE SUGAR BOWL. THAT'S A SHORT TRIP FOR THEM, CONSIDERING JACOB PLAYS FOR UNBEATEN HAWAII, CLOSE TO FOUR THOUSAND MILES AWAY.
"It's a little different for a Mom", said Gay Patek, Jacob's Mother. "I'm excited that he was on an undefeated team, it's great, but I'm just amazed that he can play on a football team and keep up with his school work and live 4,000 miles away from home and do so well." "As far as being undefeated, no I didn't really expect it, but we were hollering for it", said Gary Patek, Jacob's Father. "I'm very proud of him. You can't deny him of all the effort. I believe his faith in God is what really is pushing him to where he is. It's just very overwhelming to see him excel in the sport. I watch football because my son plays football. I'm hoping it's not his last game. I'm hoping he gets invited to the Hula Bowl. Everybody says the Sugar Bowl's a big deal. I'm pretty excited about it and we'll enjoy being there with friends and family and especially with Jacob."
JACOB PATEK IS THE SECOND STRAIGHT VICTORIAN TO PLAY IN THE SUGAR BOWL. ST. JOE EX CASEY CULLEN PLAYED IN THE SUGAR LAST SEASON FOR NOTRE DAME.
