HER DAYS ARE FILLED WITH PAPER WORK AND PHONE CALLS.
BUT MOST IMPORTANT, IS HER TIME WITH STUDENTS AT GANADO ELEMENTARY. JOANNA RAMIREZ IS ONE OF 4 COUNSELORS AT GANADO ELEMENTARY.
ALTHOUGH THIS IS HER FIRST YEAR AS A COUNSELOR, HER EDUCATION CAREER BEGAN 20 YEARS AGO.
CO-WORKERS SAY THAT SHE BRIGHTENS UP THE OFFICE.
Co worker Anita Garza, who is also a school counselor at Ganado Elementary says"It's pretty easy to say nice things about Joanna. She comes in here and she's bubbly. All that energy comes out and affects us and makes us do a great job."
<"She is a hoot. It's a joy to come to work every day because I know she'll be here in the office. If your in a horrible mood, just looking at her brings your spirits up."> says Shanna Salak who is also aCounselor, at the school.

"You meet lots of boys and girls here. There background and home environment is not the best, but you just try to let them know to stay in school. And it will make a big difference in their life. If they just get that education." says Joanna Ramirez.
SHE SAYS THAT SHE CAME TO GANADO ELEMENTARY BECAUSE OF THE NEED FOR A BI-LINGUAL TEACHER.
SHE OBVIOUSLY LOVES HER JOB. SHE COMMUTES EVERY DAY TO GANADO FROM PORT LAVACA. THAT DRIVE IS 40 MILES.
Yulma Armendariz who is the Counselor Secretary comments about Ms Ramirez"Always willing to drop whatever she's doing to help out. If she's working on Paperwork and a student comes in to talk, she drops everything and heads out the door with the student.">
AND WHEN SHE HELPS A STUDENT TO OVERCOME AN OBSTACLE IN THEIR LIFE, SHE SAYS IT IS ONE OF HER GREATEST JOYS.
<"It just seems like a big excitement. You know you've helped somebody and made a difference. Even if it's one student. It's been worth it all">Joanna Ramirez\Educator Of The Week
