New Movies for Feb 1 Wknd

Some weeks there are so many great new movies opening up that I’d need a couple of hours to really cover them right.
This week, I’ll be lucky to stretch it out to 45 seconds.
“The Eye” is a remake of a very cool Hong Kong horror film. It stars Jessica Alba as a blind woman who gets eye transplants. Now she’s thrilled to be able to see again, that is until her new eyes start showing her frightening images of death.
Is she going crazy? Or are her new eyes possessed?
“Over Her Dead Body” finds Eva Longoria playing a woman who dies right before her wedding night. Paul Rudd plays the guy she was supposed to marry, and he’s trying to move on with a new relationship, something that angers the ghost of his ex-fiance. So she decides to haunt the new girlfriend, which makes for some pretty awkward dates…
“Strange Wilderness” finds funnyman Steve Zahn playing a TV nature show host with horrible ratings. So, to spice things up, he and his team set off to find Bigfoot. In Malibu. Naturally, things don’t go as planned…
Thank heavens for Oscar expansion films. This week, the Academy Award nominated “There Will Be Blood” rolls into town. Daniel Day Lewis is brutal but brilliant playing a turn-of-the-century oil tycoon who locks horns with a revivalist preacher.
It’s a bit long and bit too unfocused for my tastes, but there’s no denying that “There Will Be Blood” features great acting, superb cinematography and music and assured direction from Paul Thomas Anderson.
Not a great week on Home DVD, although I will point your attention to “The King of Kong,” a very enjoyable documentary about an average Joe trying to capture the world record for Donkey Kong. This is a great, crowd-pleasing flick—one of my favorites from last year.
And that’s what’s new in theaters this week, I’m Sean McBride the movie guy for Newscenter 25.
