Now when it comes to making your home more secure, it's all about common sense, folks. A burglar does not want to enter a home that is occupied. So even if you've left the home, make them think you're still there! Leaving the light on - or even the television - will make them wonder: 'Is somebody there or not?' And, whether you have a security system or not, believe it or not you can go to the do-it-yourself center, pick up a package of these stickers, put them on your windows and doors, they're not going to know.

If you're considering actually putting a security system in your home, obviously you can hire a company to do that. There are a lot of companies out there that will come in and put in the keypads, put sensors on the windows and doors, maybe even infrared or motion sensors. The only problem I have with these systems is, they are basically letting you know that somebody's breaking into your home or is already inside.

Let's do some things to keep them from breaking into our house in the first place. First thing you ought to do: Install some motion sensor lighting on the outside of your house. If somebody is messing around in your yard, these are going to go off and it's going to scare them. One of the best things you can do is install one of these video cameras on the front door and the back door. Easily wired by the homeowner, down into the house to a monitor, you can see - real time - what is going on front and back of your home. If you leave the house, you can actually hook it to a recorder - 40 straight hours it will record everything that's going on.

If you don't want to make those investments, remember the stickers on the windows? Dummy camera dome for 20 bucks. Put that up - they're not going to know if it's real or not.

Don says if you do opt to install a home security system, make sure you ask your insurance agent about a possible reduction in your homeowners insurance. For more security tips, visit www.homefront.com
