The Missoula Children’s Theatre (MCT), the nation’s largest children’s theatre, has been touring extensively for 34 years now from Montana to Japan, and will visit more than 1,200 communities this year with 32 teams of Tour Actors/Directors. A tour team arrives in a given town with a set, lights, costumes, props and make-up, everything it takes to put on a play…except the cast. The team holds an open audition and casts 50-60 local children to perform in the production. The show is rehearsed throughout the week and two public performances are presented on Saturday. All MCT shows are original adaptations of classic children’s stories and fairytales…a twist on the classic stories that you know and love. Creativity, social skills, goal achievement, communication skills and self-esteem ate all characteristics that are attained through the participation in this unique, educational project. MCT’s mission is the development of lifeskills in children through participation in the performing arts.

Auditions will be held for the MCT production of The Pied Piper Monday, 24, 2008 at the Leo J. Welder Center for the Performing Arts from 4:00 pm to 6:00 pm. All those auditioning should arrive at 4:00 pm and plan to stay for the full two hours. Some of the cast members will be asked to stay for a rehearsal immediately following the auditions.

Among the roles to be cast are the Pied Piper, Sara, the Mayor’s Son and Daughter, the Mayor’s Council, Cooks, Townskids and the troublesome Rats. Students, grades Kindergarten through 12th grade are encouraged to audition. No advance preparation is necessary. Assistant Directors will also be cast to aid in rehearsals throughout the week, and to take on essential backstage responsibilities.

The Missoula Children’s Theatre Tour Actors/Directors will conduct rehearsals throughout the week from 4:00 pm to 8:30 pm each day.

The Pied Piper will be presented on Saturday, March 29, 2008 at the Leo J. Welder Center for the Performing Arts at 3:00 pm and 7:00 pm. Tickets are $6 for kids and $10 for adults. The Missoula Children’s Theatre residency in Victoria is brought to you by Theatre Victoria with support from the Victoria Rotary Club.
