THESE 4TH GRADERS AT PLACEDO ELEMENTARY, ARE BEING QUIZZED ON VOCABULARY AND THE PROPER USE OF LANGUAGE. MRS LYVIA THORPE WANTS HER STUDENTS TO BE THE VERY BEST THAT THEY CAN BE, BUT WHO SAID THAT SCHOOL DOESN'T INCLUDE SOME FUN TIME.
THIS IS HER 2ND YEAR TO TEACH AT THE ELEMENTARY CAMPUS IN PLACEDO, BUT SHE HAS ALREADY BUILT A BOND WITH ALL HER STUDENTS.
["They are just so fun to teach, they come here brand new from a different campus in 3rd grade from the Bloomington Campus, and so they are new, just like me. And we learn together."says Lyvia Thorpe.
<" I didn't know how to read and I felt bad cause all the kids could. So I asked Mrs.Thorpe to help me and she did. It took some time, but I got it.">[Elvira Trevino\Student
"She makes learning easier. The strategies are hard and she always helps us learn if we need help.">Marissa Soto\Student
IN ALL, MRS. THORPE TEACHES 30 STUDENTS A DAY.... WITH ONE CLASS IN THE MORNING AND ONE IN THE AFTERNOON.
WHAT KEEPS THE STUDENTS ATTENTION, IS HER EVER CHANGING STYLE. GIVING NEW LIFE TO THE LANGUAGE ARTS AND SOCIAL STUDIES.
BUT SHE IS ALWAYS SENSITIVE TO SPECIAL NEEDS OR CONCERNS THAT A STUDENT MAY HAVE.
<" Mrs. Thorpe, she always listens to what we have to say....If we have a problem and need some help, It may be after school or maybe even inside class.">Hailey McGill\Student
SHE SAYS THAT TEACHING IS SOMETHING SHE FEELS THAT SHE IS SUPPOSED TO DO. SEEING THOSE BRIGHT SMILING FACES WAITING FOR HER EVERY MORNING, SHE IS EAGER TO SHOW THEM SOMETHING NEW.
<"We try to have fun. We play some games. I read to them a lot. Some parents are so busy they just don't have time to do a lot of that at home.">Lyvia Thorpe\Educator Of The Week
AND THAT INVESTMENT IN TIME, BONDING WITH HER STUDENTS, IS WHAT IS MAKING A DIFFERENCE. GIVING THEM THE ENCOURAGEMENT AND THE DESIRE TO GROW IN THEIR EDUCATION
<"Mrs. Thorpe, your like a mom to me, because whenever we're down, you bring us back up. And congratulations.">Maryssa Diaz\Student
