Since the start of widespread vaccinations in the United States, the number of cases of formerly common childhood illnesses like measles and diphtheria has declined dramatically. In fact, certain diseases appear so rarely now that parents often ask if vaccines are even necessary.

But the truth is that most diseases that can be prevented by vaccines still exist in the world – even in the United States.  Vaccinations play a crucial role in keeping kids healthy.

On Wednesday, April 23, 2008, Manju Sachdev, M.D, a local pediatrician, will discuss the importance of childhood immunizations at a Citizens Medical Center HealthWISE event.  After the presentation, Dr. Sachdev will answer questions from concerned parents. The program will begin at 5:30 p.m. in the Central Classroom at Citizens Medical Center.  Call 578-WISE to reserve your seat.
