THEY SAY HER APPROACH IS NOT ORDINARY --- FRESH AND FULL OF CHILD-INVOLVEMENT. AND WITH HER ENTHUSIASTIC ATTITUDE, SHE FINDS STUDENTS EAGER TO PASS THROUGH THE DOORS OF HER CLASS.
NEWSCENTER 25'S STEVE BROUSSARD GOES INTO THE CLASSROOM OF CAROLYN KEEYS AT DELEON ELEMENTARY --- TONIGHT'S EDUCATOR OF THE WEEK.

Science Class\Deleon Elementary:

"Good Morning Miss Kees....Welcome to your environment. It has a lot of living things and a lot of non living things, and we're working in habitats today."

HER DOWN TO EARTH MANNER, AND ENTHUSIASTIC SPIRIT IS WHAT STUDENTS LIKE ABOUT CAROLYN KEES OF DELEON ELEMENTARY. SHE HAS A UNIQUE POSITION, TEACHING SCIENCE ABOUT 1 HOUR A WEEK TO K THRU 5TH GRADERS.

"I love working with the kids. I love to see them excited. I want to see them learn, but I want to see them have fun learning. And to me, the only way they can have fun is hands on doing it and participating."

Juan Velasco\Student:
"Miss Kees is very intelligent when your feeling down, she makes you happy again. And when you come into this class, it's always different and it's not really boring like boring science."

Joseph Monroy\Student:
"Miss Kees, she puts up different Habitats every day so you can see different things when you come in."

SHE SAYS KEEPING THE STUDENTS ATTENTION IS THE KEY TO LEARNING. AND HER METHODS ARE DIFFERENT FOR STUDENTS IN HIGHER GRADES SUCH AS 3RD THRU 5TH. CHALLENGING THEM EVERY STEP OF THE WAY.

Mya Padillo\Student:
"One time she taught us about rocks.She made chocolate out of it. She made candy out of it, It was fun."

Kaci Sheltrup\Student:
"Well she comes over to us with the stuffed animals. And makes us have fun and we get really excited. And we say yea, this is the best class ever."

BUT THE MOST EXCITEMENT FROM MISS KEES IS AFTER A STUDENT HAS BEEN STRUGGLING TO UNDERSTAND, THEN A LIGHT BULB IS TURNED ON.

Carolyn Kees\Educator Of The Week:
"All of a sudden, they say oh Miss Kees....you know, they've got it. To see the look on their faces, they seem to enjoy it. And if they enjoy it, to me it's worthwhile they might remember. What they've learned."
