New Movies for the May 9th Weekend

It wasn't hard to predict that "Iron Man" would blast off at the box office, but I'm pleased to report that week 2 of the summer movie season is another winner, with good action, comedy and the candy-colored adventure known as "Speed Racer."
Based on the anime favorite, "Speed Racer" is the story of a young driver trying to win his races and survive the evil corporation that wants to destroy him. More notably, "Speed Racer" is a candy colored adventure that looks just like a Mario Brothers game brought to life. Tat means that the races don't look real, but they sure are exciting. It's fast-paced, over-the-top, filled with physics-defying stunts. It's even got a monkey. Ten year old boys will be thrilled. Mom and dad may just get a headache.
What Happens in Vegas" is a rudimentary romantic comedy that coasts by on the charm of the lead actors. Ashton Kutcher and Cameron Diaz play two strangers who meet in Vegas, get drunk and end up married. Before they can get an annulment, they win a 3-million dollar jackpot, and now they have to stay together or risk loosing their share of the cash. The rest is very predictable, with the slob of a slacker dude and the uptight career woman slowly warming up to each other before the inevitable happy ending. There's nothing original here, but it's sweet and the cast is cute--not a bad way to spend date night.
Good thing that the movies are good, cause home DVD is not. Over her Dead Body and the Hottie and the Nottie are two of the worst films of the year so far.
And that’s what’s new in theaters this week, I’m Sean McBride the movie guy for Newscenter 25.
