The race for Victoria School Board Trustee, District 5 has turned into a complicate procedure. Incumbent Tami Keeling and challenger Dr. Charlie Jaynes has ended in a tie with both candidate receiving 581 votes in Saturday’s election. Victoria Elections Administrator George Matthews says the next step is Thursday at the V.I.S.D. board meeting when members canvass, or make the votes officials. At that time the board president can offer the candidates a “cast lot” which can be something as simple as a coin toss to determine the winner. If either candidate declines that offer, the Victoria Elections Administrator then has five days to have a recount of all the votes. If it still ends in a tie, there could be another election for that position. This is something that happens from time to time, but is very unusual. Newscenter 25 will be following this story and will keep you updated on the status of this race.
