Buccaneer baseball outfielder Layton Hiller’s accomplishments on and off the field earned him the 2008 Dr. James H. Atkinson Cup at Blinn College. The annual award goes to the sophomore student athlete with the highest cumulative grade point average.
Hiller had a 3.951 GPA for his four semesters at Blinn. The kinesiology major and graduate of Victoria’s Memorial High School is the son of Michael and Janey Hiller. He will transfer to the University of Louisville.
The Atkinson Cup, sponsored by the Buccaneer Alumni Letterman Association, began in 2000 to honor the top sophomore student athlete with the highest GPA in a minimum of 48 transferable hours. The award is named for former Blinn athletic director and president, the late James H. Atkinson.
