THE ATHLETE OF THE WEEK AWARD THIS TIME GOES TO ST. JOSEPH HIGH SCHOOL IN THE NAME OF A YOUNG LADY WHO COULD HAVE WON THIS HONOR IN THREE DIFFERENT SEASONS.
THAT'S HOW GOOD LAUREN VANSICKLE'S SENIOR SEASON AT ST. JOE HAS BEEN.
BEFORE SIGNING WITH CONCORDIA, VANSICKLE WAS FIRST TEAM ALL-STATE IN SOFTBALL AND VOLLEYBALL, SECOND TEAM IN BASKETBALL.
"It's been fun throughout all four years of high school", said Vansickle. "I love being with my friends and being able to play with them on all the three teams that I have been on at St. Joe. What's your favorite sport of the three? Softball for sure. I've always loved it ever since I was a little girl. What was the toughest sport for you? Probably basketball. That was the hardest for me to practice hard because it doesn't come as easy as the other two. I really had to practice and put my mind to it. Did you expect to have this much success? I really hoped for it. I like working hard and always doing my best, so I was glad I did have success in it. I liked it because I don't like sitting at home. I get bored easily, so it was nice going from one to the other. Now that your playing days here are over, how tough is it to leave? It is hard because I'm leaving behind so many memories and all my friends. We're all going to different places, but I'm excited for what's to come." WHILE SHE WAS EARNING 13 VARSITY LETTERS AT ST. JOE, VANSICKLE WAS ALSO IN THE TOP TEN IN HER SENIOR CLASS.
