Dreaming Baseball was published by Kent State University Press as part of their "Writing Sports" Series. The story is about the 1919 World Series "Black Sox" scandal. Epitomized by the famous "Say it ain't so! Joe."  which refers to (Shoeless Joe Jackson) one of the first and most famous players ever banned from baseball for taking money from gamblers.

Basically The Great American Pastime as Greek Tragedy with Good guys gone bad. And Evil Gangsters tempting innocent Ball Players. Told by a fictional second-string short stop, Mickey Donovan, a son of the South Side, who grew up dreaming of playing for the White Sox and learned the hard way that even a child's game like baseball can get messy when there's money involved.

The Editors did a great job of taking a 1500 page manuscript (originally rejected by Farrell's editors) down to an easily readable 308.

Great Summer Read. Take it to the Beach. Definitely a book that'll help take your mind off the cost of gas.
