New Movies for the June 27th Weekend Print E-mail

The summer movie season started out strong, but the last few weeks have been a bit of a let down. Not to worry, as the second wave of great summer films hits theaters today, and leading the charge is a cute little robot named WALL-E.

"WALL-E " is set in a future where humanity has turned the earth into one giant garbage dump, leaving a lonely little robot to clean up the mess. After putting in 800 years of never-ending garbage detail, this poor little trash compactor on wheels desperately needs a friend.

“He’s finally at the point where he’s wondering if there’s more to life, when suddenly, out of nowhere comes a probe droid named EVE, and he thinks she’s the most beautiful thing he’s ever seen.”

It shouldn't surprise anyone to hear that Pixar Animation has delivered another cinematic masterpiece, after all, the studio behind "Toy Story," "Finding Nemo" and last summer's "Ratatouille" has yet to make a mediocre film, let alone an outright bomb. These guys only make hits, and their latest film, "WALL-E," is a 4 star winner. It's so good that it's now my favorite story from the Pixar library.

Sorry Nemo.

“Wanted” is a hyper-kinetic action fantasy where James MacAvoy plays an average Joe who finds out that he’s actually the descendant of a mysterious line of warrior assassins. Angelina Jolie and Morgan Freeman play the teachers determined to recruit the chosen kid into their order.

Great stuff on home DVD. From the charming romantic comedy “Definitely Maybe,” to another early candidate for Best film of the year, Colin Farrell and Brendan Gleeson in the surreal hit man comedy, “In Bruges.”

And that’s what’s new in theaters this week, I’m Sean McBride the movie guy for Newscenter 25.
