THE FIRST BIG RAIN DELAY AT WIMBLEDON THIS YEAR HAPPENED WEDNESDAY. SO DID THE LATEST ROGER FEDERER WIN THERE.

NO CONTEST AT ALL IN THE QUARTERS FOR THE FIVE-TIME DEFENDING CHAMP, AS THE TOP-RANKED FEDERER WHIPPED MARIO ANCIC 6-1, 7-5, 6-4 TO EXTEND THESE STREAKS: 39 CONSECUTIVE WINS AT WIMBLEDON, 64 CONSECUTIVE WINS ON GRASS, AND 17 CONSECUTIVE SEMIFINAL APPEARANCES AT GRAND SLAM TOURNAMENTS. FEDERER WON 61 OF 71 POINTS ON HIS SERVE. FEDERER, WHO'S TRYING TO BECOME THE FIRST MAN SINCE 1886 TO WIN WIMBLEDON SIX YEARS IN A ROW, IS NOW IN THE SEMIFINALS FRIDAY AGAINST THE RESURGENT MARAT SAFIN, A FORMER NUMBER ONE PLAYER WHO OWNS TWO GRAND SLAM TITLES. SECOND-RANKED RAFAEL NADAL MOVED CLOSER TO A THIRD STRAIGHT WIMBLEDON FINAL AGAINST FEDERER BY OVERWHELMING 12TH-SEEDED ANDY MURRAY OF BRITAIN 6-3, 6-2, 6-4 FOR HIS 22ND CONSECUTIVE VICTORY OVERALL. I ASKED MIKE COLLINS, HEAD PRO AT VICTORIA COUNTRY CLUB, IF THOSE TWO WILL MEET AGAIN, AND WHAT ABOUT THE WILLIAMS SISTERS?
"It's pretty certain that Nadal and Federer'll face each other again", said Collins "The two other semifinalists aren't as strong as I thought they might have been this year. This year Nadal will definitely be more than a handful for Federer. The way he's been playing is just incredible. What are the chances on the women's side that we have another Breakfast at Wimbledon with the Williams sisters? I will definitely be cheering for that. You could always watch what Mr. Williams'll be doing in the stands. Both Serena and Venus are hitting the ball very well, though Venus not quite as well as Serena. As they get closer to the finals they play better in the tournament like they always do because they don't really practice that much, or so it seems. As they get further in the tournament they're incredibly strong. "
THE WILLIAMS SISTERS, WHO ADVANCED TO THE DOUBLES SEMIS ON WEDNESDAY, PLAY IN THE SINGLES SEMIS THURSDAY MORNING.

WIMBLEDON ON NBC-VICTORIA CONTINUES AT NOON THURSDAY.
