Victoria Police Trying to Cut Down on Vehicle Burglaries Print E-mail

Vehicle burglaries spiked in April, prompting Victoria Police to launch the Lock Your Car, Take Your Keys, Hide Your Belongings Campaign.

Some of the types of propery taken have been stereos, purses, jewelry, CDs, money, credit cards, tools, radar detectors, GPS systems and other items.

Victoria Police have been doing burglary report cards to see how local vehicles are shaping up, and so far, vehicles are failing at a rate of about 50%.  The #1 reason is for having property out in plain sight.  What have we seen?  Look at the list of the type of property stolen, and that's what we've seen in cars.  Those are the kinds of items that are tempting theives to break in.  Plus, between 5 - 10% of cars had their windows partially or fully down.
That's why we are trying to get everyone involved in the campaign, LOCK your car, TAKE your keys, HIDE your belongings.  You will see businesses putting up signs in area parking lots to remind the public.
