OUR SUMMER KIDS PLAY WEEK SERIES CONTINUES WITH A LOOK AT A LOCAL BOXING CLUB GEARING UP FOR A MAJOR EVENT.
GARCIA'S OUTREACH BOXING IS SENDING NINE BOXERS, THE MOST THEY'VE EVER SENT, TO THE TEXAS GAMES. THE TEAM INCLUDES LAST YEAR'S SILVER MEDALIST, JOE HERNANDEZ, AND A GIRL FOR THE FIRST TIME. "I'm very excited", said 152 pound boxer Gino Mireles. "I know it'll be tough but I just have to go in there and just do my best." "I feel pretty good because we have a lot of good people who've been helping me out, coming from out of town to spar with me", said Hernandez. "I feel they've helped me, I'll get it this time. Last year I was nervous and was scared. This year I don't think I am. I'll be ready." "This year we have more kids going", said Garcia's Outreach Boxing Owner Johnny Garcia. "We have taken about five kids every time. This is our third year and we've come back with about eight golds and a couple of silvers. This year I'm very happy because we have an extra girl and eight young men and I feel real good about their training. We get a lot of feedback on us here, the things we're doing, the way the boxers act when they go to school or out on the street. A lot of discipline and building that character and respect. Those are the things we build here. That's what we want to build in Victoria, to let these kids know that those three things will take them to any level they want to go to." GARCIA'S OUTREACH BOXING KIDS START COMPETING AT THE TEXAS GAMES IN SAN ANTONIO ON THE 24TH. WEDNESDAY NIGHT ON OUR SUMMER KIDS PLAY WEEK SERIES, GOLF AND KARATE.
