WE START OFF WITH SPORTS HISTORY MADE WEDNESDAY, THE VERY FIRST FOOTBALL ACTION PLAYED ON MEMORIAL STADIUM'S NEW FIELD TURF.

THE VIPERS TOOK ON CALHOUN IN 7-ON-7. FITTINGLY, THE SANDCRABS WERE THE VISITORS SINCE THEIR LAST GAME LAST YEAR WAS ON THE OLD MEMORIAL STADIUM TURF. FIRST GAME, SANDCRABS DOWN 20-6, JAMES EZZELL TO STERLING JONES, A FORMER ATHLETE OF THE WEEK. THEN IT WAS EZZELL TO SAM COFER FOR THE CONVERSION. THE VIPERS CAME BACK. O.J. HUGHES TO JORDAN JOSEPH FOR THE TOUCHDOWN. CONVERSION PASS, O.J. TO ALEX BARBOSA. VIPERS WON THE FIRST GAME 35-14. CALHOUN CAME BACK TO WIN GAME TWO 21-6. THE VIPER PLAYERS I TALKED TO LIKE THE NEW FIELD TURF. HOW ABOUT THEIR COACH?

"It's much improved", said Head Coach Mickey Finley. "Like everything else technology has advanced a little bit. It's a better quality, better cushion for the kids and it should last longer also. With most good grass game fields, the average cost of maintenance is around $50,000 a year. This was around $300,000. If you get 10 years use of it that's about $500,000 that most people would spend on a real good grass turf field."
THE VIPERS START TWO-A-DAYS ON AUGUST 11TH.
