New Movies for the July 25 Weekend

Two new films roll into town, although they’ll be hard-pressed to generate much buzz with Batman: The Dark Knight still dominating the scene. Still, if you’re looking for laughs, Will Ferrell is the man to see.
In “Step Brothers,” Will Ferrell plays a grown old man who still lives at home with his mother. His sweet, no-stress life is turned upside down when mom meets a guy with a still-living-at-home son of his own. When the parents get married, the two sons become step brothers, and it’s hate at first sight.
There’s a lot of humor found in watching Ferrell and John C. Reilly prance around like spoiled ten-year-old boys, and coupled with a better-than-average screenplay, “Step Brothers” proves to be a real hoot. Of course, it’s all teenage boy humor, with an overabundance of profanity and pratfalls.
It’s very lowbrow, but also very funny.I want to believe in the new “X Files” movie, but it’s pretty mediocre take on the old TV show.
Special Agents Sculley and Mulder are back, this time they’re investigating a priest who seem to have a psychic gift that might help the FBI track down a missing agent. As nice as it is to see Sculley and Mulder back on the beat, I can’t help but thinking that the TV show had much more interesting stories than the one found in this movie.
Very little on home DVD other than the card-counting drama “21.” But, if you like silly British comedies, I do heartily recommend Simon Pegg in the TV series “Spaced.”
And that’s what’s new in theaters this week, I’m Sean McBride the movie guy for Newscenter 25.
