New movies for the Sept 5 Weekend
Written by Sean McBride
Friday, 05 September 2008
What can I say? Only one new film opens this week, and
it wasn’t screened for critics. So, this shouldn’t take long.
Nicolas Cage is a hit-and-miss actor. When he hits,
it’s a monster smash. But when he misses—yikes.
In “Bangkok Dangerous,” Cage plays a hitman
in Bangkok to kill some Thai mobsters. While
he’s there, he ends up falling in love with a shop girl and mentoring a
local errand boy. So you can expect a mix of gunfire, romance and Cage’s
trademark brand of oddball acting.
Unfortunately, there’s not much of note on home
DVD either. A couple of South by Soutwest films, “The Promotion”
and Helen Hunt’s directorial debut, “Then She FoundMe.”
I think that the best of the bunch is a low budgetromantic comedy called “Outsourced.” It’s the story of a guy
whose job is outsourced to India. To
make matters worse, he’s told that he can keep his job if he’ll go
train the Indians who are replacing him.
And that’s
what’s new in theaters this week, I’m Sean McBride the movie guy for Newscenter 25.
