THE ATHLETE OF THE WEEK AWARD TOOK LAST WEEK OFF DUE TO IKE, AND SO DID THE AREA STUDENT-ATHLETE THAT EARNED THE AWARD. OUR ROSS KINNAIRD HAS MORE ON THIS OUTSTANDING PALACIOS SHARK.
PALACIOS TIGERS FULLBACK ALEX BUCKLEY IS A HIT WAITING TO HAPPEN. BUCKLEY IS LISTED AT 5'11, 235 POUNDS AND HE KNOWS HOW TO USE IT.
"I try and plow through people", said Buckley. "I just put my head down, keep my feet moving, don't stop." "He's a power runner, alex, he's the strongest young man on our football team", said head coach Mike Treybig. "He bench presses almost 500 pounds and squats over 600." AND ALEX HAS USED THAT POWER STYLE TO HIS ADVANTAGE. HE'S RUN FOR MORE THAN 140 YARDS IN BOTH OF THE SHARKS EARLY GAMES.
"I'm hoping to get 2000 yards by the end of this year. That's a pretty lofty goal? Its is I think I can get it."
ALEX MAY HIT HARD ON THE FIELD AND WITH HIS PREDICTIONS, BUT HIS PERSONALITY OFFERS A SOFTER SIDE...

SO ALEX IS REALLY A KID AT HEART, BUT HE'S A MAN ON THE FOOTBALL FIELD. AND THAT'S WHAT PALACIOS NEEDS IN ORDER TO REACH THE PLAYOFFS AGAIN THIS YEAR.
"He's been on the varsity, this is his 4th year. And he's been starting for the previous 3 years, so his experience the success we had last year, i'm hoping it pays real good dividends for us this year." "Hopefully, we'll make the playoffs this year. Hopefully we get it this year. Senior year for all the seniors on the team. Follow in the footsteps of past seniors on the team."
