Giant Step Towards UHV Expansion

A unanimous approval sends the University of Houston Victoria to the next step in becoming a four year university.  Victoria leaders and members of the community joined together in a standing ovation to celebrate a gigantic step towards making UHV a four year university.It was two and a half hour of long discussions and overcoming concerns.  How would a four year university affect Victoria College?  Can we become a four year university without an initial expansion?  But another concern is attracting students to the UHV campus. Dr. Tim Hudson, UHV President said “We're now only attracting students from our local area, we want to be involved to bring new talent and new students to Victoria.”By opening the opportunities to freshman and sophomores to attend UHV, the ability to have scholarships is a necessity.  However, within a week’s time, members of the community have managed to raise over $100,000 in pledges towards UHV scholarships.  If the UHV Board of Regents agrees with the expansion to four years, the next step is being able to get the document to legislation.  If approved by the Texas Legislature, recruiting for freshmen and sophomores will begin.
