Written by Steve Broussard
Thursday, 30 October 2008
A CAST OF 14 MEMBERS OF MID-COAST FAMILY SERVICES SING AND DANCE THEIR WAY TO URGE KIDS TO MAKE GOOD CHOICES.
IT'S JUST LIKE HOLLYWOOD, RIGHT HERE ON A STAGE IN A VICTORIA ELEMENTARY SCHOOL.
VICKERS ELEMENTARY HOSTED THE MUSICAL GROUP FROM MID-COAST FAMILY SERVICES, CALLED RED RIBBON ROCK.
USING THE HIGH SCHOOL MUSICAL THEME. THEY KNOW THAT MANY OF THE YOUNGER GENERATION CAN RELATE TO THIS MUSIC AND THIS TYPE OF ENTERTAINMENT.
THE SCRIPTS ARE RE-WRITTEN TO RELATE TO THE CONSEQUENCES OF ALCOHOL, TOBACCO DRUGS AND BEING TRUTHFUL
<"The dances really take a lot of time that are labor intensive. Were not all born dancers, so we really practice hard on that. And were practicing months beforehand, because we want it to be a great show for the kids.">Stephanie Spears\Prevention Specialist, Mid-Coast Family Services<"I thought the performance was really cool and I liked it. It was really fun.">Devon Schrodoer\Student, Vickers Elementary
RIGHT AFTER THE PERFORMANCE, THE CREW BREAKS DOWN ALL THE SOUND EQUIPMENT AND PROPS AND GOES ON TO THE NEXT PERFORMANCE.
AT 12:45, THE CREW UNLOADS AT DELEON ELEMENTARY.
<"Just knowing that if were making a difference, in one kids life, that can be contagious, it could go on to their friends and family change. More people that we think.">Chris Garcia\Mid-Coast Family Services
ALTHOUGH THE CAFETERIA IS EMPTY, IT QUICKLY FILLS UP WITH EAGER KIDS, READY TO HAVE FUN.
TEACHERS AND STUDENTS CELEBRATED BY DRESSING AT ROCK STARS FOR THE DAY.
<"Well I like the dancing, because it made me kind of excited to be drug free.">Bryce Martinez\Student
SINCE A WEEK AGO MONDAY, THE MID-COAST FAMILY SERVICES PRODUCTION, RED RIBBON ROCK, HAS PERFORMED AT 43 SCHOOLS.
