To most of us, it’s just a bunch of numbers and letters. But to officers investigating an auto theft, it’s much more. Newscenter 25’s Shannon Dillon says the “VIN” or Vehicle Identification Number on your car is the I.D. that automakers assign every vehicle. It’s a part of your car title as well that identifies you as the registered owner. But what if your car is stolen and the thief removes the VIN and changes the look of your car. How can police be sure if they track it down? Victoria police are renewing a push of having the car’s VIN etched into the windows of your car. It’s a simple and inexpensive process. Shannon will have a live report on how this program works coming up this evening on Newscenter 25 at 5pm.
