It was a strange set of circumstances that trapped four people in an SUV in northeast Victoria County Wednesday morning. State Troopers say the SUV was traveling southbound on U.S. 59 near the Inez rest stop when another car pulled out in front of it. The driver of the SUV swerved to avoid a collision, but damp pavement caused the vehicle to skid off the road, down an embankment and into a field. The back of the SUV was in about 4 feet of water, and the doors were pinned shut by trees and brush. 4 people were inside the vehicle and couldn’t get out. After about 50 minutes, rescue workers got everybody out. There were no injuries. The car that caused the sequence of events in the first place kept on going.
