MethodistDay School is the first recipient of the Hero of the Heart Award. The award is given to various schools, organizations and contributors to the Ronald McDonald House Charities of the Greater Houston-Galveston Area. Representatives from the Ronald McDonald House were on hand to thank the students and staff for their recent contribution of 41 gallons of pull tabs and to help them kick off their fundraiser for this year. Methodist Day School Director Katie Mcleod is pushing to top last year with an even more sizable goal.
“I’d like to reach 50 gallons. That would be a big stretch for us, but I think our students can do it.”
This is the second year the school will participate in the fundraiser, which they do in memory of Jacob Perez, a relative of Methodist Day School Students. Vice President of the Ronald McDonald House Charities Judy Schmid was more than proud to present the students and the school with the award.
“The kids did a momentous job on collecting these pop tabs and we are very appreciative of them to helping us and helping other children.”
Money generated from collection of the pull tabs is used for different grants to give money to the Ronald McDonald Houses. Anyone wanting to donate pull tabs may drop them off at any McDonald’s location in plastic Ziploc bags. From Victoria, Excelsha Thomas, Newscenter 25.
