Local Fire Departments Fight 3 Grassfires

A COMBINATION OF HIGH WINDS AND DRY GROUND REQUIRED THE IMMEDIATE ATTENTION OF LOCAL FIRE DEPARTMENTS.
VFD RESPONDED TO 3 DIFFERENT GRASSFIRES OFF FM 616--JUST NORTH OF BLOOMINGTON AROUND 11:00 AM.
ONE OF THE GRASSFIRES WAS IGNITED BY A DOWNED ELECTRIC POLE---BURNING APPROXIMATELY 6 ACRERS OF LAND--BUT FIREFIGHTERS DON'T KNOW WHY OR WHERE EXACTLY THE OTHER TWO STARTED. "The one right here that we have right now probably burned about 15 acres. Uh, the fire came in probably about 11:30 and we just now got it under control," says VFD's, Roger Stewart.
THIS ONE BEING THE LARGEST OF THE THREE-- WHICH THEY THINK IGNITED NEAR THE FENCELINE AND SPREAD IN BOTH DIRECTIONS---TOWARDS THE EDGE OF THE ROAD---AND UNDER THE FENCE INTO A FIELD ENCLOSING OIL TANKS.
"Anytime we're working with any type of flammable liquids out there, these are two oil tanks I think that was close and one was saltwater disposed oil. Uh we do protect those and make sure everything taken care of," says Stewart.
AREA FIRE DEPARTMENTS WERE CALLED UPON TO ASSIST IN PUTTING OUT THE FIRES--AS WELL AS TANKER TRUCKS--WHICH WERE USED TO PUT OUT HOTSPOTS AND INSURE THE FIRES WOULD NOT HAVE THE OPPORTUNITY TO REIGNITE.
