As the citizens pay tribute to the fallen and honor the heroes, communities all over the Golden Crescent took a moment to remember what our country stands for.
Citizens Medical Center held a memorial service this morning to honor the courageous emergency workers who risked everything eight years ago. Members of the Victoria Fire Department and law enforcement attended to pay respect to their fallen comrads.

Although Texas is thousands of miles away from where the attacks occurred, no American was left unaffected. Most remember exactly what they were doing when they heard our nation was under attack.

"I was in the 6th grade at the time in Placedo, and I was walking down the hall, and one of my friends had just seen it," Trevor Shiller said. "She thought they were showing her a movie, but then the rest of us saw it, and it ended up being the World Trade Center. They shut down school for the day and sent us all home."

Local businesses and schools honored the efforts of the first responders in Victoria. HEB hosted its annual luncheon for fire fighters to show their appreciation. Chick fil-A offered a free meal to all first responders, military personnel and veterans.
