Two teens are behind bars in connection with the act of vandalism played out at Cuero's Christmas in the Park earlier this month.

The case of the gobbler grinch came to a close on Tuesday.

"The gobbler grinch has basically been found, and hopefully they'll have to deal with justice," said Cuero Mayor Randy Saenz.

In a press conference held Wednesday afternoon, Chief of Police Chris Hernandez announced that the vandals behind the $150 thousand dollars in damage done to displays at Cuero's Christmas in the Park are behind bars.

"Lead Investigator, Sgt. J. Timpone received a credible tip last week, at the end of last week, that named two persons of interest that were actually locals, and confessions were obtained by both," said Hernandez.

Police arrested 17-year-old Scott Rogers and 17-year-old Shane Torres on Tuesday evening at their homes.

Both suspects confessed to being at the park somewhere between 9 p.m. and midnight on Saturday November 7th and damaging three of event's large displays.

"I would just like to say, this was a traumatic event that turned out to be a misfortunate occurrence caused by two first time offenders who did not understand the consequences to their actions," Hernandez said. "They are remorseful, and they are still in jail."

According to Hernandez, the investigation did not reveal any intentional acts, but he says if found guilty both teens could face anywhere from 2-10 years in prison, a $10-thousand dollar fine, community service and restitution.

Each suspect currently sits behind bars in the Dewitt County jail on $150 thousand dollar bonds.

"We're just so happy to find out who did it, and if they could find out why. I mean I'm sure it's just vandalism, but other than that we're just estactic," said December Events Committee member Mary Polansky.
