Everything that is cracked, chipped, torn, and broken at a Victoria home will be no more at the within the next 30 days.

It’s good news for homeowner Elizabeth Plum, who couldn't be more pleased with the upcoming renovation.

“It’s really truly a blessing you know not just from the city but from God as well," says Elizabeth Plum.

After 14 years of living under the same roof she had to patch up herself, a phone call came from a close friend changed everything. The friend told Plum about help that’s available for residents to get their home fixed through Victoria's Community Action Committee. Kathleen Abrahamson learned about the available programs while watching a story some time ago on Newscenter 25.

“I'm happy for her. I'm gratefully happy for her," says Abrahamson.

The renovation is a joint effort between Victoria’s Community Action Committee and the City of Victoria. Plum recently received instructions to have everything removed from the home, so the renovation can begin. Missionaries from Plum’s church is helping her box up, and package everything, and say they are humbled to help out a woman who has given so much of herself.

“It gives us a chance to help her, she helps others as well," says missionary, Elder Nielson.  

Plum had previously applied for programs through Victoria's Community Action, but didn't meet the requirements and says despite chemotherapy and other hardships she's endured, she is grateful for this gift. Even though at one time she felt as if everything was falling apart.

“I thought my house was going to collapse. Somehow duct tape and some nails kept it all together," says Plum.

Her home may be appear weathered, but still stands strong, as does the bond she shares with friends, and church members. Plum says those relationships and prayer have helped her have a strong spirit. And soon she'll have just as strong of a home to live.
