H1N1 Vaccine Arrives, But in Low Numbers

The H1N1 vaccine has arrived in Victoria, but some medical professionals are saying the amount they're receiving doesn't come close to the populations needs.
After months of waiting, Victoria Pediatrician Felix Regueira's H1N1 vaccine order is here.

He chose to order the shot vaccine rather than the nasal vaccine because he says the shot form can be used on all patients who are at least six months or older. The nasal form however, is only to be given to healthy patients.

But the number of H1N1 shot vaccines his office received is far, far less than what they requested.

On Tuesday they received only 100 H1N1 vaccinations and have been told they'll receive 120 more in the very near future.

But with over 45-hundred patients, Dr. Regueira was hoping to receive between 500 and 750 vaccines.

"You tell them how much you normally order for the regular seasonal flu vaccine and the government in texas, or washington, dc, i'm not sure which one, decides how many they are going to send you." Dr. Regueira said.

Out of that 100 received, the doctor will offer the vaccine to his medical staff first to ensure that those working with children stay healthy. The pediatrician was the first in his office to receive the highly anticipated vaccine.

He says in the last few months several of his patients parents have inquired about the vaccine for their child. With only 100 vaccines as of now, he's sure that they will go quickly, and when, or if, a new shipment will come in, is not guaranteed. The sought after vaccine will only be available to Regueira's current patient load, and even then, the vaccine will be administered on a first come, first serve basis.
