Close to 275 pounds of left over Halloween candy will be a sweet surprise for those fighting overseas.

"The candy is going to an air force base, actually 68 kilometers north of Baghdad; Balad is the name of the town." Dr. Daniel Garza of Goliad Dental Care said.

Candy is one of the most requested items by soldiers, but it's not just the men and women in camo that will enjoy the sweet treats.

"It's a good entry way for the soldiers to talk to children when there is a language barrier. Candy seems to bridge the gap and they become instant friends, so the troops always carry candy on them at all times." Dr. Garza said.

A portion of the candy, like chocolates, that can't be shipped overseas will be taken to the Brook Army Medical Center in San Antonio and delivered to the Wounded Warriors unit.

Now that Goliad Dental Care has collected the couple hundred pounds of candy, Boy Scout Troop 60 steps in.

"I just want to help and support our troops, make them feel happy that we care about them."> Boy Scout Benjamin Guerrero said.

By sending a little piece, or pieces, two hundred pounds worth of good old American candy, it lets our troops know they are not forgotten and maybe in some way reminds them of home.

"It feels really good to help people out." Boy Scout Nicholas Thompson said.

Boy Scout Troop 60 now has their work cut out for them, they'll sort and ship the sweet treats to our men and women who so honorably serve our country.

Goliad Dental Care also donated $150 to help the Boy Scouts with shipping the candy and any other incidental charges that they may run into while getting the sweet goods over to our soldiers.
