Karen High, 2nd Grade Reading, Hunt Elementary, Cuero

She is described as dedicated to her class...  And even spends extra hours to assure her students are ready for the 3rd grade.

Her teaching methods are far from ordinary.

2nd grade Reading teacher Karen High helps her students expand on their vocabulary, spelling and  math.

"I like the way she reads books to us and teaches us how to read and write our name." says student Keaundre Green

"I think Ms High is special because she's just so nice. She's always good to me. I just like her." says student Brady Watson

Teaching for the past 25 years, she says that although technology has changed and she uses computers to assist the students, she believes in getting to know her students strengths and weaknesses.

Giving personal attention to those who need help.

"She comes in early in the morning, 7 o'clock and she is here late in the afternoon. She is just excellent with the students." says Shirley King, Teacher Assistant

"I like to be in this class because you get to do dances and see how high you can jump against your desk." says student Sophie Sidel

"She loves us and she helps us alot." says student Jakkob Martinez

She often uses her personal experience in struggling with math to help her students to connect and help them to grow academically.

"I look at each child the way the Lord does and each one is very special. Each one has a very special place in my heart." says Teacher Karen High
