New Outlet to Assist Veterans Looking for Jobs
Local

After returning home from the war zones overseas, many who have served, find it hard to find a job out in the struggling economy that we are in today.

But thanks to the efforts at the local workforce center  there soon will be another outlet for them to reach out to when looking for employment.

For veterans returning from overseas the reality of coming back to lots of options of job is not always the case.

"You come back to your hometown and you have all these high expectations that all the stuff I did in the service is going to pay off, but there's really not a job out here that would relate to what you did in the service," Veteran, Daniel Byrd said.

And Byrd isn't the only one. At least 15 to 20 veterans coming in each day to the workfocrce center searching for jobs .

Their constant search has led the center workforce to create a " Veterans job club".

"What we want to do is bring awareness to the number of jobs out there, the actual job sector iteself, and also bring awareness to the veterans to let them know what types of jobs are out there," Veteran Employment Representative, Eric Leonard said.

The club is designed to help veterans enhance their networking skills, learn how to put together a resume, as well as work on their interview skills.

But veterans arent the only ones who can benefit from attending. Local businesses are also encouraged to attend the meetings to see how hiring veterans can help them qualify for certain program incentives such as tax breaks and grants.

The first meeting of the Veterans Job Club is set for August 4th, 10:00 a.m. at the Workforce Solutions Center located here in Victoria.

Veterans and employers who plan to attend are encouraged to RSVP beforehand.
