A murder in Edna is under review but Police say the investigation shouldn't take much longer because the man in custody has admitted to the crime.
A candlelight vigil was held Monday night for a woman, Wendy Kirk, who was allegedly murdered by the man that vowed to honor and cherish her, her husband.

Edna Police and the Jackson County Sheriff's Office were called to a home in the early morning hours on Monday after a call came in by a man, James Kirk Jr., claiming he had just killed his wife.

"He met officers and told them what he had told the dispatcher, that he had just killed his wife and then took officers into his home where they found her laying in the bedroom." Edna Police Chief Clinton Wooldridge said.

Officers arrested Kirk who now sits behind bars in the Jackson County Jail charged with murder. He's being held on a $250,000 bond.

Police say there had been no prior domestic disturbance calls to the home.

"There was no evidence that anything like this could happen in the home. Up until yesterday (November 23) they were not a family we particularly knew about, except that they were an upstanding family raising their family in Edna." Chief Wooldridge said.

The Kirk's two kids ages 13 and eight were in the home at the time of the murder but the Police Chief said the children didn't witness the crime.

Once the investigation is concluded the case will be handed over to the Jackson County District Attorney's Office and presented before a grand jury.
